Your domain and email, truly yours

You end up with your business email running on your own domain, without losing email along the way, and with the signatures that help keep you out of the spam folder.

7 lessons32 min readDomain and email

You're running your business from a personal email, or from the Gmail account you started with, and every time you think about switching to an email with your own domain name, the same worry holds you back: if I touch this, will I end up a day without receiving anything? On top of that, you send quotes, invoices, and even mass emails from the same account, and you're not sure if that's what's landing your emails in spam.

Here, you first decide how many mailboxes your business needs and which one stays separate from mass emails. Then the email gets moved on the right day, with the MX record changed and the old mailbox still being watched just in case. Next, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC get set up in that order, and a test email goes out before you write to a customer. The old Gmail gets shut down at the end, little by little, not all at once.

Who this course is for

This is for anyone who already owns their domain and runs a business that sends emails every day and wants to switch to an email with their own name without losing a single message in the move. It's not for anyone who hasn't bought their domain yet.

What you'll walk away with
  • Deciding how many mailboxes your business needs and what each one is called
  • Switching the MX record on moving day without leaving a gap with no email
  • Setting up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC in the order that helps keep your emails out of spam
  • Checking with a test email that everything works before writing to a customer
Before you start

Already having purchased your own domain.
