Send a message to your whole list without wearing it out

You'll walk away with your first broadcast decided and ready to send, or, if your tool allows it, scheduled, knowing what to check the next day so you don't wear out your list.

6 lessons32 min readWhatsApp and customers

You've got a WhatsApp list with hundreds of numbers and news to share, but the second you think about hitting send, you freeze: write to everyone the same way and some unsubscribe, others never open it, and one day WhatsApp blocks your number. Maybe it's already happened to you: you sent a broadcast full of hope, and by the end of that week your list felt colder, not warmer.

Here you first decide who not to message, then split your list into three groups based on when each person bought, and give each group its own sending rhythm. Next you write the opening line for each group, work out how many names each list can hold without overdoing it, and pick the time to send. By the end, you'll know which three numbers to check the next day so you can fix just one thing before your next broadcast.

Who it's for

This is for anyone who already has a list of customers saved in WhatsApp and wants to reach out without wearing them down; it's not for someone who doesn't have any contacts saved yet.

What you'll walk away with
  • Split your WhatsApp list into groups based on when each contact bought
  • Set a different sending limit for each group based on who opens and who doesn't
  • Write the opening line of a broadcast so it doesn't get closed in three seconds
  • Read the three key numbers the day after and change just one thing in your next broadcast
Before you start

It helps to already have your customers' contacts saved in WhatsApp, and for them to have your number saved too: a WhatsApp broadcast list only reaches people who have you in their contacts.

The 6 lessons

In the order it makes the most sense to read them.

  1. 1

Before you write the message, decide who you're not going to send it to

The lesson ends with the criteria set: recent buyers in, unrelated contacts out, and your base list ready before you write a single word of the message.

  2. 2

Three buckets, not thirty: how many lists to make and by what criteria

You'll come away with three broadcast lists set up in WhatsApp, each with a clear purchase-date criterion, plus a rule for knowing when (and only when) you need a fourth.

  3. 3

Once a month doesn't wear people out, once a week does

Each segment in your list has its own sending limit, and you set it by watching who opens, not by how much you need to sell this week.

  4. 4

What gets read in three seconds doesn't start with "Special offer!"

You'll come away with the opening line of your broadcast written for each customer group, plus a clear sense of what to leave unsaid in the message and where the extra details go.

  5. 5

256 names per list, and why you shouldn't fill it all the way

By the end, you'll know how big to make each broadcast list, when to split it into several, who belongs on it, and what time to send it.

  6. 6

Who opened it, who bought, and who never wrote back

The day after each broadcast, you check just three numbers and change one single thing in the next one, not everything at once.
